I'm looking for nice clean artwork for a medical alert symbol. Will be laser engraving on anodized alum. Anyone willing to share? Thanks! Sandy

Sandy, you may be aware or have authorization to use the phrase "Medical Alert", but if you don't, that term is a registered trademark. I found out when I received a letter from the holder after I listed an item using that phrase without their permission. I had thought it was a common or generic term - wrong.

Randy... who?

I see that term all over the place (including governmental institutions). Aside from that, it's a generic term, which of itself would prevent copyright except when used in specific circumstances (such as "Medical Alert Product X") listed on the copyright form, and only in those specific circumstances.

Dan, it was several years ago and I know I didn't save the letter. I was doing med and alergy ID cards and posted some on eBay. Two days latter I received a legal directive to remove my product. If you go to the Trademark Registration page:

http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=searchss&state=4008:kqftsj.1.1

and search for Medic Alert, you can find the owners.

Only thing I see is something for Cingular Wireless for sending medic alerts via cell...

??? This is the results I get:

http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=toc&state=4006%3A16lcjt.1.1&p_search=searchss&p_L=50&BackReference=&p_plural=yes&p_s_PARA1=&p_tagrepl%7E%3A=PARA1%24LD&expr=PARA1+AND+PARA2&p_s_PARA2=medic+alert&p_tagrepl%7E%3A=PARA2%24COMB&p_op_ALL=AND&a_default=search&a_search=Submit+Query

I have not looked at them in detail to se if some have expired...just sharing the knowledge.

If you go to the Trademark Registration page:

http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?...008:kqftsj.1.1 (http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=searchss&state=4008:kqftsj.1.1)

and search for Medic Alert, you can find the owners.I believe "Medic Alert" is trademarked: IIRC it's one of those "I've fallen and I can't get up" pendant widgets.
But "Medical Alert" is not the same thing.

Randy,

You can't link directly to those pages are they're individual sessions (i.e., they time out).
