I've been looking for a decent used 6" jointer and came across a local classified ad for an OAV 6" jointer model# SJ-1503 with a 1 HP motor. I've never heard of OAV, and I want something that will be dependable. They're asking $150 which includes a shop-made mobile base.

Does anybody have this model? Should I take a look at it or pass on it?

I would be on the lookout for a Griz. There jointers do not hold their original value very well, but they are good machines with great support and the possibility of replacement parts, if needed.

I have a bigger Griz, and it works great, and was relatively cheap.

Thanks Stephen, I agree, and I have been for a while now. It seems like there are lots of used jointers on the coasts but few in the Midwest. I love my Grizzly table saw and would be ecstatic if I found a Griz jointer.

Here are two form craiglook.com

I've bought lots of used equipment, and you need to look every day, sometimes for a long time. When you least expect it, your machine will pop up.

Thanks! Funny how my Craigsnotif app didn't catch the one in Rockford - I will definitely look into that. Canton, OH is probably too far although that looks like a good deal on a late-model 8".
