step stool question

When building a 2 step step tool is it ok for the grain to run horizontal or is it better off running vertical on the sides.

please let me know. I have seen pics of stools with the grain running both ways.

Running the grain vertically on the sides often solves issues of joinery or expansion. But it does depend on the design.

I usually run the grain vertically on the sides. You have less problems with seasonal wood changes if you make the grain run in the same direction between tops and sides.
