I wanted to share a few recent turnings. The first two pic's are of a HF I turned from a piece of my large oak burl. It is 11" tall by 7" in dia. It is finished with deft but not buffed so that it would make a better Photo. I came close to entering it in the fall contest. The next two photo's are of a curly maple bowl. It is finished with walnut oil and about 12" in dia. by 6" deep. Critiques are welcome.
Thanks,
Jack

Both are beautiful pieces, but I especially like the figure and shape of the HF. Great work.

I second that -

Jack, both are fantastic pieces. The HF is beautiful wood, and you have that narrow foot that most folks like. Love the NE opening!

The curly maple bowl is really neat - the concave band adds a lot of interest.

Both pieces are very nice, but the bowl is a hands down winner for me. I love the form, and the wood is gorgeous.

Everything looks fantastic. I am really digging the HF's that you guys have been showing with the natural edge tops. To me that just puts it over the top. Great turnings with some great wood.

So that's how it's done, eh? Mind boggling wood...... beautiful pieces!

Fine work on both pieces. The HF burl looks to be in motion with every change of perspective that is very captivating.

Jack,
I really like both pieces, the rim on the bowl is really nice and I think it makes it look like a bowl you would actually use, but certainly can enjoy just the wood and it's form as art.

Your hollow form has a great shape, and I too really like maintaining and seeing a natural edge or other inclusions around the opening. My eyes keep looking at the length of the opening on this one, wondering what it would look like shortened, if this had been possible during the forming of the shoulder.

I tried this ... editting your shot to bring it down a bit, and it's what I would like to see. Admittedly, I've been at this a very short time, but wanted to share my thoughts anyway to see what you or others think. I'll likely be faced with similar decisions of my own at some time.

That oak burl is unresistable. Good work!

I am not sure if "awesome" is an actual critique of your hollow form, but it fits!

Both pieces are stunning, but I really like the HF

Thanks everyone. Tim, I like your version of the HF,but if I had made the top that short on this piece there would have been a V shaped void in the top where the bark comes down into the top on one of the views.
Thanks again,
Jack

Jack - as always - very nice work - on both pieces!

Pretty wood and I do like the rim variation on the bowl. Your HF, however, steals the show as far as I am concerned! The form is spot-on! Love it!

Thanks for sharing!

Both are outstanding but of course the HF is my favorite. That ne mouth sure adds to the burl grain. And such a tiny foot. Better keep it away from any breezes. Well done...Bill...

Jack I really like the HF. The burl is a knock out! The curl in the bowl looks wonderful.
