This is from a dead hickory tree I cut from our yard last week. I asked for advice on what to do about the wormholes and most said cut it thin and pick the holes clean. Some said they fill the holes with coffee grounds or turquoise. I picked them clean and tried some turquoise inlay for the first time in just a few holes. Measures 7-1/2 x 3. One good soaking in danish oil and buffed. Comments and/or criticism welcomed.

Holy worm hole batman! Nice job on the piece. The form is well executed and I like the bit of detail at the top. The one filled in hole reminds me of the "F" in the Fender Guitar logo. Nice work.

That's nice! Glad you picked the worm holes clean - adds a lot of character! Also glad you held back on the color. In this case, a little bit goes a long ways.

Nice work!

After filling, I thought the same thing. Wasn't intentional, just coincidence, and later I could see an aerial view of a shark swimming. I'll check with my therapist on Tues. for any underlying meanings to all of this.

The pleasing shape of the hollow form makes this piece, the worm holes are just an added bonus.

LOL!

That's a great looking piece. I appreciate the restraint you used with the filler. The form is lovely. Nicely done.

I thought it was a shark too. Looks nice (the form, as well as the shark!)

Those were some really busy worms! And they helped you make a Very interesting HF.

Really nice form, and I love the wormholes. If you have more of this wood, I would love to see another similar form without the filler just to see the comparison. I think I lean toward no filler with so many holes.
