My brother came to visit today and brought me a hand saw that was either our great grandfather's or our step-grandfathers. It has the following inscription:

"This saw especially designed for mechanics use. Made from high grade steel pefectly hardened and tempered, taper ground, level filed. Weatherproof hardwood handle.
Robert E. Willard

The medalling says "warranted superior".
My brother has had the saw for years and recently sharpened it. Now to try it.

Can anyone tell me anything about the saw? I will send pics later.

That you got a saw passed down to you from a grandfather is gloat all by itself. That inscription is cool - though I'm not sure how you weatherproof a wood handle.

Wish I could help with information on the saw itself; but I can't.

I found this so far. It's an ad from 2000 on the old tools archive.

Crosscut saw, 26" blade, 8ppi. "WILLARD SAW CO./ROBERT E.
WILLARD". Four screws and wheat carving on handle. A well-made saw
in very good condition, dating from about 1950. One tooth near the
handle is broken.

Another one.

THE WILLARD SAW CO. WARRANTED CAST STEEL and a K in a circle stamped into the blade of this saw. 24" blade 7 tpi that seem to have been punched out with a machine. I am not sure of the origin of this saw but it must be from the 1920's to 1930's. Nice ivy logo is about 70% readable.

It's cool you have something from your Grandpa. I have a work bench my grandpa made; dosn't have any vises and it's painted green. I don't think I'll ever change it; but I do use it.

So I guess I'm saying; use and enjoy the saw.
