I whipped this out today, it is sycamore. it was pretty plain so I put some toner on it. 5 wide by 4 high

Almost a tobacco sunburst! very nice.....Looks like a pretty thick build of finish..lacquer??
I like it... a lot.

great form and super duper finish! It does remind one of the sun-burst patterns seen on the face of some high end guitars. Nice job!

Mohawk toner....amber, cordavan and raw umber
spray while turning slow on the lathe

That is very different. I wouldn't even have known it was wood from the picture. Looks like a great way to make something plain standout!

Nice work! I like the added color. Looks like it would be something to experiment with! Great looking finish! Reminds me of blown glass!

Hé David what's PLAIN here, and you sure that's turned from some wood :cool:, well this is what I'd call "Enhancement" surely looking sharp and spiffy :D

I keep coming back to this piece. There's something very pleasing about it... I think it's the combination of the coloring and the finish. As the others have mentioned, it does remind me of pottery or glass. Very interesting.
