Couple years back at Christmas I made a mesquite Craftsman rocker and ottoman for my woodworking buddy Randy's wife. This year I whipped out a little roundtop table with pecan slats to go with it. :)

18-1/2" round top, 25-1/2" tall. Nuthin' special...maybe a 6 hour table (spread out, of course). Natural WATCO topped with SW dull rubbed pre-cat lacquer. The three boards in the top are from one piece of wood...which may illustrate how difficult it can be to match grain and color with mesquite.

This is the second table I've sprayed with the cheapie Harbor Freight HVLP sprayer that specifically says 'not recommended for lacquer'. I've found that it lays on a pretty good coat of material. If I give it a couple shots and wait until it's just dry, I can put the finish sander on it with 320 paper and get an exceptional base for the final coat. After the last coat is just dry, I smooth it again with 0000 steel wool, being careful to stay with the grain and not scratch it too bad. Then I leave it sit for a couple days, do a final rub with steel wool, and polish with a soft cloth. Looks like a finsih that has a helluva lot more work in it. :D Thanks for viewing...

Gorgeous as always, KC! I love mesquite but it is so pricey! :)

KC, this is very nice work. Is this considered craftsman style? The tables I normally see like this have a square top. I like what you have done.
