I've built a box that has a top that is closed by pushing the top in dados on either side. It worked fine before finish (lacquer) was applied. I did make the dados a little wider in anticipation. Now, it is somewhat "sticky" when closing the lid and tends to catch. What is a good wax to apply? I don't have any paste wax, so thought I might try soap, candle wax, or an auto rubbing compound. Another thought is Pledge. Before I apply anything to the lacquered surrace and dado, any do's or don'ts, or recommendations? Thanks.

I have put Johnson's Paste wax on similar applications without any problems such as my outfeed table a tablesaw. Works great and is available at Lowe's or HD.
Hope this helps.

I use candle wax or canning wax for drawer slides, either one should work for your application.

Don, if you have some car wax, give it a try
