Just a simple bowl 5 1/4" across and 2 1/8" high. Finished with dye and buffed wax.

Dave & John-

I used General Finishes Merlot and then Cinnamon on top, both water based dyes. I also used black Briwax to add to the color.

Great looking bowl William! Color sure looks good! Nice mix! I really like the form on this and the soft finish gives the bowl a very warm feeling!

Very nice work! Thanks for sharing!

Nice bowl William, curious about dying though. Do you immerse in a pot of dye or apply with brush/rag/etc?

I use either water or alcohol based dyes primarily. With small pieces, a paper towel will do. Very easy- wipe on, wipe off. The gain will have to be deburred with a high grit sanding, especially after the water based dye. Some times I will mix and on this bowl I layered the two dyes. Note: dyes dry very dull and will not achieve the "wet" color until a finish is applied. Depending on your top coat you may need a barrier (ie shellac) over the dyes.

It is advised to use scrap of the same material to test your complete finishing process. And wear gloves unless you want your fingers looking like easter eggs.:D

Very pretty bowl. I might have had trouble dying the mesquite though. Guess I haven't had enough of it to turn.:)

Nice work! Looks like it would be a nice one to hold. Well done on the dye work, too.
