I asked for opinions on how to finish this vase last week. The consensus was for an oil finish and buffing. I am sure that no one lost any sleep over how it turned out (:D), but here are the results.

Mesquite, sanded to 400, Danish Oil, buffed, and waxed.
Thanks for the help deciding on a finish and for looking!

That's a fine looking vase, Robert. Do you know what species of mesquite it might be? ........ Jerry (in Tucson)

I like it! Just enough of a sheen to highlight that beautiful wood! How do you like it?

I am sure that no one lost any sleep over how it turned out...My gosh, Robert, it took you long enough!!:eek: If I have to go another week without sleep, I don't think I can stand it!:D

I really like what you did with this, and the color and figure in the mesquite is beautiful. Too much gloss would have been a mistake on this one. Great result!!

Now, time for some sleep!:)

I'm really not a fan of hi gloss finishes, so I really like how this turned out...and I GOTTA GET SOME OF THAT BEAUTIFUL MESQUITE!!!!!
Keep em coming so JK can get his beauty sleep...I'll bet he gets cranky without it!

I have no idea on the species of mesquite, but the tree was cut in central Texas. (Free Craig's list score.)

It is very smooth to the touch and just plain feels nice to hold. I personally like the way it finished out.

The vase is 8" tall and 4.5" wide with 1/4" walls.

Oh, WOW! I really, really like this one. The color and character of that piece are fantastic. That's going in the inspiration file.

Robert that is really a nice piece. You done a great job on it. Having never used a oil finish myself, how did you like using it? Congrat's on a truly beautiful piece!

Robert,
Great choice for the finish. It really brought out the color and grain orientation. Well done.
