A friend gave me a piece of cherry this past Spring which I'd roughed out immediately. I decided to finish it up this week.

I really like the symmetry of the grain about the center.

Finished with Antique Oil, Beall buffed with tripoli and white diamond followed by several coats of Renaissance wax. It's about 7" across and 2" high.

Dick, very nice bowl, and as you pointed out, the grain orientation, along with the nice work you have done, really compliments this piece of cherry.

Thanks for the kind words folks.

Proof that a great piece of wood can even make a beginning turner look good if you don't hose it up too badly ;)

Very nice, Dick. With the rays in the end and the sap wood on the edges, it looks like you got all you could out of that piece of wood.

Love the way that came out, Dick, cherry can sometimes be plain and sometimes full of cool grain patterns and you got a dandy here. I like your rim treatment as well.
