These were done today on maple plq. 10.5" x 13".
Settings were 100% power, 30 Watts, and 80% speed IPS, 500 dpi with 0.003 spot size, to lazy to put .001 lens in. lol...Total Eng. time 15 Min.

Thanks Robert, not really, it kinda looks vintage like this, in the sunlight or day time it looks nice. If i colour fill it what would you recomend?

There are far more experienced people on here in regards to color filli,
maybe some of them can give some materials and techniques to use.

There are a lot of techniques used by our members. Personally, on wood, I use nothing but powder paint. I don't have a pic, but I used black powder paint on this same project. I turned up the power just a smidge more than normal when I over-glazed it. This caused some of the paint to actually vaporize leaving an inconsistent look that was very vintage.

Ok today did a second one of the declaration, this time with 0.001 spot size, and same settings as the first. Not much diff, maybe should have backed off the power on the second one as it was more intense burn due to the 0.001 lens. They still look cool though.

I didn't realize Xenetech offered the necessary collimator to achieve a 1mil spot size...

Hi Dan, yes they have the 0.001 which I just got. They have had them for a while, the standard lens that comes with machine is 0.003 spot size. They also have a larger one than that. I don't have that one yet!

It comes with a 1.5"FL standard? Interesting... most of the other systems come with a 2"FL lens as it affords more leeway in focusing for most materials. I wonder what made them choose such a short FL as standard...

Hi Dan, Let me clear it up a bit, standard xenetech lens is 0.003 which is a 2.5" distance to table, the 0.001 spot size is there 1.5" distance to table and the 4" one is i can't remember the spot size? there distance and lenths of lens are diff. than ULS or epilog and the such.

Hi Guys, trying to paint fill one of these they are walnut pre-finished but the paint seems to still get in the plaque somehow, I can't get it out either, only did a fews lines of it, so im ok for now, but how should I do the rest?

Too late now, but BEFORE you engrave, the grain needs to be sealed. Masking sometimes helps, but if the grain is too open it isn't enough.

I don't have a one fits all answer, but some options are: paint sealer, thick coatings of varnish/poly, or wax to name a few that come to mind. I'm sure all of the experts here have their own favorites. Personally I try to stick to tight grained wood when possible.

There is a method here that calls for waxing after you engrave, then paint filling. I can't recall the thread, but it was sometime in the last year.

I've had my best colorfill results on finished wood which has been sealed after engraving with liquid floor wax. The purpose of the wax is to prevent the paint fill from bleeding into the grain of the wood. It is easy to clean using mineral spirits.

You could also use various clear spray finishes but then you are refinishing the entire piece.

I lasered the pc. then sprayed it with sealer, then paint filled it, cleaned it up, the sprayed to seal it. It looks good. Better then the pics show.
