Has anyone done this on the Grizzly GO634Z? I grabbed one on sale while they were cheap last week, but need to determine if it will work, preferably before I spend much effort.

Shouldn't be any big deal at all, how "finished" it looks depends on the time you are willing to put into it. You can go to the Wixey site and they have user pics of it mounted on a bunch of different machines and it becomes clear looking at them that there are a million ways to do it.

Ditto what Van said. I put one on a Delta DC-380, with a few pieces of aluminum angle iron, and a few screws. Its pretty easy to work out some attachment scheme for most planers, and frankly I'm sorry I lived without one for so long. Its really nice not having to keep checking a test piece with dial calipers for precise thickness requirements or repeatable milling (like when I screw up and have to make a few more parts as happens on almost every project). Take a close look at what comes in the package, as it will get you most of the way there for instal on most planers I wold think.

I installed a DRO on that machine with some aluminum angle iron and plastic spacers. I attached it directly to height gauge. If you need a pic I will try to post one.

I have one and it works but there's one problem with mine. It doesn't remember the zero point when the planer bed is lowered to switch the dust hood. The Wixey will travel something like 6.3", the bed needs to travel 6" or a bit more to switch modes. The Wixey will remember it's zero point except when it gets near full travel. I have to reset the zero point each time I switch modes which is a pain. This may be a problem with this particular device and not every Wixey will have the same problem. Mine is mounted upside down which may or may not enter into the problem. http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=87606&highlight=wixey

Grizzly has new remote mount DROs in lengths up to 12" I think. Here's the 6" one http://www.grizzly.com/products/0-6-Digital-Fractional-Horizontal-Vertical-Remote-Scale/T21577
I can't find the longer ones on the web site but I've seen them in flyers. The tricky part would be to be able to set the zero point on the grizzly units. The Wixey unit spring loads the scale stick which is very simple. The remote readout on the Grizzly would be convenient but it'd take some thought to mount the Grizzly so it worked similar to the Wixey zeroing mechanism.
