I made a couple of pieces from some sycamore that I have had laying out for a couple of years

bowl 8 1/2" wide by 4" high and a HF 8" wide by 13" high, both have purple heart collar's..gloss lacquer, will buff when cured

sorry for the bad pics, I need to get a photo booth thingy

C&C welcome

David,

You just keep knocking them out of the ballpark! Beautiful! I like the one with the finial the best, but both are gorgeous, and that sycamore really is pretty with the spalting. The purple heart is a good contrast as well.

The collar on the finial is really nice with the ogee form, and this is just first rate! Are you still turning on the Grizzly lathe in your avatar? [a 16/42
G0632, I think is the model?]

Roger, I am still turning on the grizzly, and still like it as much as I did when it was new

That is great David. The reason I asked is that I have the G0698, and I had considered the G0632. but found that they were going to carry the 6098, and wanted all the lathe I could get for the money I had to spend, so I got the 18/47 model.

Your work on these last few pieces you have posted has been really upscale for sure. Your finish is just beautiful, and you nailed all the forms on the bowl and hollow forms.

Thanks for sharing with us, and +1 for Grizzly green! :D:D;)

Man, David, those are really nice. The purple heart really sets them off. That wood is exceptional... When I've had sycamore spalted like that it was too rotten to turn. Did you have a hard time with these?

I like those a lot and that scyamore is outstanding. The only problem with turning scyamore is that I have to cover up all my bare skin or I will break out like with posion ivy. I still turn it from time to time, but with care.

Allen, it wasnt rotton yet, but if I had waited a month it would have been too late

David,
The wood is spectacular. I really like both pieces, but the shape of the HF is the one I really like. The contrast of the woods sets the wood off well. Very well done. Sycamore can really spalt well.

Beautiful work, David. I hope I can self-spalt some of the tons of sycamore I have to look even close to that. Great shape and finish. Well done.

Beautiful work. I'm not usually a fan of purpleheart, but I really like it in these pieces. Your finish is beautiful. I love the form of the piece with the finial, but I like the look even better in the photo without the finial.

Wow David, that is some seriously beautiful spalting in the wood and you have done a fantastic job maximizing the character in each piece.
