View Full Version : Help with Lee Valley Waterstone

I recently received a lee valley 1k/4k waterstone in an auction with a MK 2....the problem that I am having is that I dont know which side is which....it doesnt say on the paper that came with it or the lee valley website....this is the stone

I think those are Norton stones, so the 1000 side is beige and the 4000 is white.

I suspect the white stone is the 4K. On the LV website the single 4K stone is white; also the white is the thinner in your combo stone, which would make sense for it to be the finer one. But just a guess.

Just sharpen a tool on one side and then the other. The 4000 will polish the steel and the 1000 will leave a hazy, lightly scratched surface.

Great, thanks all for the quick replies, I will go with the beige as the 1k and the white as the 4k and test to verify.
