I can't seem to find a source for a smaller tool rest, maybe 4", for my Jet 1642. Anyone point me to one?

Thanks, Perry

I haven't used Jeff's, but I do like the Robust.

There is gentleman on IAP that makes them. They are great, I have a post and three different length bars from him. He is member Rherrel. I plan on buying a set for my new lathe from him.

Jeff Nicol makes one very similar to the Robust, in any size you want, and more affordable. Besides, he is one of us and a prize contributor for our turning contest!!:D

Is there a link for Jeff's tool rest? I tried Google, didn't find one. I'm interested in a long one. And a curved one. If it's cheaper and better than a Robust, I'll give it a try.

TIA

This one is a little smaller than you asked about but I've been using it and the price is right. It's made by the fine folks at Nova.

Here is Jeff Nicol's website: http://www.woodennicol.com

He shows some of his tools and steady rest but I didn't see any tool rests.

Cheers,
David

DavidDavid, Jeff can and will make up several items on special order. He is a fabricator of sorts, with a really good grasp of metal work, as well as being a superb turner.

Hi Perry:

Go to www.turnrobust.com (http://www.turnrobust.com). They offer 4" tool rests to fit your lathye. there is a matrix on the site where you can locate your lathe model and see which models fit the 1642.

I can't seem to find a source for a smaller tool rest, maybe 4", for my Jet 1642. Anyone point me to one?

Thanks, Perry

Yes, he told me it was getting to be too much for him, and he was going to stop for a while.

Ah. Too bad he stopped making rests. I did find the site, but did not see tool rests. So I guess Robust again.....

Thanks for the links though.

It wouldn't hurt to pm Jeff. He made 2 rests for my Jet 1642, and they are fantastic, I can't imagine anyone makes them any better. Jeff is a great guy, if he is too busy he will tell you so, but I don't believe he would mind you asking.
