A business, based in Las Vegas has recently advertised a Vector and Raster controller as a plug-in alternative to the existing print drivers built into the low end Chinese lasers.
To prove their quality they have put up a bitmap image on their website and offered a challenge for anyone to produce a better result than their controller will produce.
I have tried but I am not quite there yet, if anyone else would like to try the challenge the bitmap can be found on his website.
I am not ready to part with my money just yet but it may be a product worth watching. (the business would also have to be up-front with its address before I part with money).

My image here has been laser cut into Traffolite engraving laminate.

Yeah, those of us who have been here a while are well aware of Full (of horse hooey) Spectrum Engineering. His first post was flogging his website, against the site's TOS, and when asked by members to stop he replied (paraphrased, but not by much) "I'll stop when they force me to". He had no intention of paying for free advertising here. That kind of poor attitude didn't sit well with the majority, including the site owner.

I also found the guy to have an extremely arrogant attitude about his products in general. His website leads you to believe he has a large team of engineers working on solving major problems, but in reality it's just him (or at least it was at the time, so I see no reason that would have changed). And he's not designing custom machines, again as his website would have you believe, it's just a standard Chinese system that anyone can purchase which has it's controller replaced with his design (which again, is a dubious claim given his record). Plenty of off-the-shelf controller boards out there for anyone to make the modification. In the end, though, it's still a typical Chinese machine.

Oh, and the Aztec file is originally from Epilog, and they've been cutting those designs as handouts for years.

It's not my call, and I know you're not trying to advertise for them, but I would love to see that hotlink edited to just basic text... I see no reason to give that guy extra search engine prowess.

Just my two cents, feel free to disagree...

I agree 100% Dan and I have removed the hotlink.
Sorry but I didn't know he had plagued this forum.

I didn't do this, but it's a demo from the ULS machine. Note the size. Photo is a little blurry, I don't have great light in here.

I will be truly impressed when I see it done to full scale and laser engraved on a rock, like the original. I'm not saying the original was laser engraved, but come one - wouldn't it be impressive to see it done that way without the weathering factor of the original? Perhaps on a nice piece of granite?

Greg,

I'm sitting here imagining the ancient Aztec's trying to properly align and focus their beam before the advent of plug-n-play machines... some day an archeologist is bound to find a huge pile of scrap Aztec granite where they lost power right in the middle of a run, the machine was bumped, etc. Times must have been tough back then, difficult to turn a profit with so many factors to consider...

Nice one Dan. :D:D
Would have been an eye-opener if the archeologist's had found lenses there where the Aztec's used the power of the sun to laser their stuff.

Joe,

Do a search, the file has been posted multiple times. It may also be on the DVD file collection sold by SMC...

Dan,

I thought perhaps this guy Pakal http://www.indigokinder.de/die_indigo_kinder_mexico_pakal_english.htm brought the technology back in time with him and perhaps a laser also! - so, ......maybe,......... - deal with that quantum leap...... in a really fringe pseudoscience sort of tin foil hat way :D!

Lee,

You have just found the remnants of that huge laser engraver Dan may have been referring to. Excellent find; you're a genius! - See Dan, - Lee knows! ( I can't believe I have actually taken it this far. :) )

Lee,

I think that may actually be a portion of their beam collimator. Historians always said the Aztecs were very technologically advanced...

Looks like it still has blood on it, kinda scarry.

I t now kinda makes sense... Sun Gawds, Y-Axis lens holders, Lots of solid gold mirrors, and heads being decapitated... the worlds oldest and largest laser engravers!

They just had ppl carrying the slabs around, one just went up when he should have went down (manual focus I suspect), and 'Off with his head!'.

They were the first written language after all =)

One thing has been bugging me: is this really an Aztec calendar?

I'd hate to sell one and have it come back in two years because it's actually a Mayan calendar and doesn't work anymore.

No problem, just ask them to come back after December 22, 2012 for a full refund!

"I'm sorry Ma'am, there are no refunds on expired calendars."
