For those interested, the latest issue of ShopNotes (#79) out this week has plans for brass and wood planes - both block and hand planes. PDF's of the plans are available on their site for those who don't subscribe to the magazine.

I was just reading this article earlier this afternoon. Interesting project, especially for someone hankering to build an infill at a lower cost/risk before springing for a kit from our friends up north...

I may try this sometime in my copious free time!

I am going to give it a try. I have a friend seeing if they have enough Brass lying around at work. (He's a Machinist) And instead of the wooden lever cap, I am going to try and make it out of brass. Some folks think it would be less likely to chatter with a brass lever cap verses the wooden one, though the wooden one does look sharp. ;) It's not like I am going to get this done in the next week or two. However, when I do get it done, I'll let ya know how it turns out.

Anybody making an infill plane might find these pages interesting:

He's making them with a mill of some sort, but here's an article from the same site above, but by a different author on doing the dovetails by hand:

http://www.xmission.com/~jry/ww/tools/schueller/schueller-practice-dovetails-v2.html

they're an interesting read, at the very least, if you are interested in making metal planes...
