in looking in to getting a circular saw in the 100 dollar range im not sure on brand yet but here are some of my preferences that the blade is on the left side but not as heavy duty as a worm drive and i want it to have a 7 1/4 blade if any one has any suggestions it would be much appreciated.

The Poeter Cable Magnesium is ~~ $145, and is a good saw.

No offense intended, but $100 and getting a "good" saw is tough... IMO, spend $169 and get a worm drive. Probably the last saw you'll have to buy. Worm drives are heavy, but well balanced. The motor is pretty much centered on the shoe. You can use a guide on both sides of the saw. Many advantages...

I have a couple of worm drive saws. If I ever had to get a new one I'm sure I'd buy another worm drive saw. Heavy Duty and Well Balanced. Right Handed users can see the blade well.

+1 on the PC Mag saw. Lightweight, powerfull, and the DC port is surprisingly effective when hooked to a vac.
...of course the downside to any sidewinder is no matter which side the blade is on, there will be times you wish it were on the other.:D

Be careful on the Makita 5007MG-- the one they sell at HD and Lowes is NOT the "MG" version, it doesn't have a brake. I've been looking at the standard borgs (HD, Ace, Lowes) for a year now at the 5007, and still haven't found the "real" version... theirs is a 5007 but it's actually a downgraded one.

I have a Bosch 7-1/4" worm drive and love it, although it is more than $100.00, it is worth it

UNLESS I was framing or using a saw for heavy duty all day work I would get this over a wormdrive. They are great saws but I don't see the value unless you beat on them all day long.
