Jeff Nicol sent this as filler for my steady rest. I turned it the other day and found lots of sanding lines. Talked with Steve S. and he gave some suggestions such as not sanding at 1200 rpm:eek: Well after a visit to Vince's WoodNWonders and a discussion on the finer points of sanding, I took the lines out of the bowl. Not absolutely perfect....but better than the high speed lines. I'm thinking it's Box Elder:cool::cool::cool:. I'm not much of a photographer, but there are reds and curl in the wood. Oh, I'm the hand model BTW.

Like Roger, my first thought was box elder with the red streaks. Nice bowl as well.

Nice job... No lines!:D

I'm with the others on the box elder just because of the red streaks.

Good looking little bowl Josh, and yes looks like Acer Negundo, alias Manitoba Maple or also known as Box Elder ;-)))

Josh - good looking little bowl! Love the color variations! Keep working with your sanding technique - it does get easier with time!

Have fun!

I really appreciate all the help you've given me into the vortex of turning wood. However, I have to disagree about the bowl being Box Elder. I turned it over and it clearly says it's Poplar.:D
Guess I have to learn how to get Sharpe off a bowl:o

Maybe you can sneak a 'u' in between the 'pop' and the 'lar'.

Nice bowl, Josh, I don't care what it says on the bottom.

Josh,

Try a little alcohol to remove the sharpie printing.
