thanks for spending my money Mike, that's quite a deal. It appears I missed my chance for the Grizzly with the helical head on the 2010 clearance (http://www.grizzly.com/catalog/2010/Clearance/).

Perhaps I should get the Jet and call off the Craigslist search for a combo. It's not like I'm going to get a used A3 or Laguna for less than $1600.

Hmmmmmm...it is my birthday. If only the HH was similarly discounted... probably I should wait for the HH.

I thought they also made one with the spiral cutterhead design. Can't find it.

Yes, they make it with the helical head (http://www.amazon.com/JJP-12HH-12-Inch-Jointer-Helical-Cutterhead/dp/B0035JK65C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1284297373&sr=1-1) but it's 76% more than the price posted for the straight knifes. ($1599 vs $2999).

For $3k, I could get into a HammerA3 or a Laguna that I could put a mortiser on for more versatility.

Maybe I should just look at buying the hh parts and swapping them out. There was talk of head speed vs feed rate issues with the HH a while back, so it's unclear whether a Byrd head could just be dropped in.

I'm sure the deal will be gone before I nail anything down.

I remember that the HH version was roughly $2600 dollars awhile back so looks like they increased the prices and then show a 17% discount to make it look like there is a savings. I wonder if it would be a good idea to get the $1600 model and add an aftermarket cutter head?

They didn't actually raise the MAPP price, the WMH tools go on an off sale regularly so the price yo-yos all the time.
