Anyone know of a good hotel near Valparaiso University. Anything interesting around there that my wife and 15-YO daughter would be interested in doing to burn a Saturday morning/afternoon?

Hey Phil, you can go to the Indiana dunes straight North on Rt 49, Wagner's Ribs for lunch link (http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/172/987387/restaurant/Indiana/Wagners-Ribs-Valparaiso) , Albanese Candy Factory just West on Rt 30 link (http://www.albaneseconfectionery.com/store/) , and Lighthouse Outlet Mall in Michigan City,Indiana link (http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=18) , take 49 North to Rt 12 east (map) (http://maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=m&lat=41.599811&lon=-86.97715&zoom=11&q1=46383&q2=601%20Wabash%20Street%20Michigan%20City%2C%20IN %2046360%20) nice somewhat scenic 35 minute drive from Valpo. Also downtown Valpo has alot of small shops, hope all of you enjoy your time here...Pat

Definitely show your daughter the university, if that already isn't your plan. It's always good to show kids what the smart kids do after high school.

I'd like to visit myself, as this is where my parents met. They tell a cute and quaint story of their adjacent dorm buildings--they could see each others room and would flash their lights at each other after a date.

Have fun, steve

So your parents were flashers? ;)

Good tips.

I'm not going. My wife and kids are going because #1 daughter has a function at the school. #2 daughter will absolutely take a look around the university, but it is a small school so wife and #2 daughter need something to do the rest of the day.

The candy outlet is ideal. They give tours. And #1 daughter is a shopper, so she will finish at 3pm and they will hit the Michigan City outlet mall on their way back (sort of, a little out of the way but a Polo outlet store is enough to detour for, I'm sure).

Any other ideas appreciated. #2 daughter is an animal lover. So anything animal related is a win.

Michigan City has a small zoo you could kill a few hours at.

You aren't too far from South Bend. I just drove through there on the turnpike twice this week but can't remember the time for sure.
