I got my new tool today. It is a Jet 1642 EVS2. I got a pretty good deal on it new. It took me little time to set up and wire. I still have my 1236 and 1014. I may sell the 1236 or make a spare lathe for a buffer any thoughts on that? Anyhow just thought that I would share. Thanks for looking. Russell:D

If at all possible I would keep one for buffing. Wish I had the room for two.

Congrats, Russell!! Very nice score!

If you have the room, for what you could get out of the 1236, I would keep it. Would be nice to do a multi-piece turning without switching chucks out.

Congrats on the new toy! If you don't need the space or the cash, I'd hang on to all three of them.

Ditto on keeping all three. Buffer set up in one. Finials & Pedestals on another and the vessel on the big one.:D

Russell,

Congratulations on the new lathe. May you have many happy years standing knee deep in shavings.

Far as keeping the lathe it is probably a good idea. I am up to 4 but I think I am going to pair it down to 3. If I had room I would keep the 4.

Good luck

Alan

Nice looking toy, Russell. Have fun! And as for selling one, heck, why not keep them all and buy even more! One for bowls, one for pens, one for spindles, one for buffing, etc, etc... :D

Russell - congrats on your new lathe! You are going to love using it!

When I upgraded from a Craftsman mono-tube to my Jet 1642 - I kept the old lathe and turned it into a sanding station. I have the Beall buffing wheels and prefer to use them on the bigger lathe because I have control over speed and better access to the wheel by sliding the headstock down to the end of the lathe.

Have fun!

Congrats! I remember when mine looked all fresh and clean like that. She's got a well used "patina" now. Have fun!

I hope to get the chance to get a little sawdust on the lathe tonight. I took advantage of a 25% off sale and picked up a One Way stronghold chuck with the adapter and so for the most part I am ready. I am leaning toward the idea of keeping the 1236. I won't sell the 1014 it is a real good pen lathe. Thanks for the help. Russell

congrtulations on lathe, good choice on chuck, the chuck comes with the
#3 jaws and you may want to add the # 1 jaws :D
