Here is an Oak burl vase that I just finished from the large Oak burl i got in the spring. It is 9" tall finished with deft. It is new form for me.
Thanks,
Jack

Oh.... that's killer! In every respect. I have a real soft spot for oak burl even though I really don't care for oak in general. Anyone who looks at this will understand why.

Wow, Jack!! I love that wood - particularly the bottom of the form where the burl rays start. Fantastic!

Very interesting form - does it have a slight flat on the bottom? Almost looks like some of the 'self righting' forms, but perhaps a little heavy at the top for that. Really nice.

What a great piece - that is some beautiful wood. The natural edge along with burl figure and contrasting colors are a great combination.

Thanks everyone, Mother Nature sure did a great job on this burl. I just tried to let it be seen. The wood was a wedge left from making larger blanks so this shape worked well for what I started with. Richard, I turned it to finish thickness green and let it dry in a brown paper bag for about a month. I saturated the bark inclusion on the light colored side with thin CA which helped it stay together while drying. I almost always twice turn my finished edge pieces, because I like the edge to be perfect, but it seems almost all my natural edge pieces are turned to finished thickness green. One can't really tell how much it warps when looking at the bark edge.
Thanks again,
Jack

That is a killer piece of burl. I agree with others comments about not liking oak to turn..but would gladly accept a piece of that beautiful wood.

You did it justice!

Having read the whole thread up to this point, I count the use of the word "beautiful" or a form of the word a total of 13 times. Can't add much more than that.
