Why are you concerned? They don't go bad after a couple years. Heck some of mine are over a decade old.
good luck,

I have bought 3 WWII's in the last 2 years. None of them came in that package. Mine all came in heavy brown corrugated cardboard specifically folded to hold the blade. I doubt there is much significant about the package, just make sure to save it if you plan to mail it back for sharpening.

Usually if it's in the heavy cardboard it's been shipped directly from the manufacturer which is how I've bought most of my blades. The one's in the stores used to have the thinner green cardboard as pictured. I haven't really looked at them in a store for a while though.

Mine did not come like that. It came in the aforementioned folded cardboard box. I got it a year ago. As long as it's not rusty, it should be okay. Even if it is old.

The plain cardboard box is usually from Forrest it is a "shipping" package, the green sleeve is the current (and has been for a long time) retail package.
