Gang,

I narrowed Drill press my choice down two: Both $299

Ridgid 15" drill Press with 1/2HP motor and 3 3/4" quill travel, 12 speeds. Had excellent reviews. I have a Ridgid tablesaw, Bandsaw, ROS, Belt sander, 14 Volt Impact driver.

VS

Porter Cable 15" with 1HP motor and 4" of Quill travel, 12 speeds. Also has X-Y axial laser Less reviews.

I went with the Porter Cable. Both are well made (Unfortunately not in the USA).

Just FYI: I did look at the Porter Cable contractors Tablesaw and was disappointed. The bed was cast iron but the table extensions were sheet metal.

What's the model number of the model you bought? I'm shopping for a drill press too. I'd like to take a look at it.

Paul, congrats and I do not mean to be too critical, but I saw both of these and in my mind it was no comparison and that the Rigid was the better machine - fit and finish, quality and warranty. I have it and really like it. What made you choose the PC?

Drill press is Model #: PCB660DP

I went back and forth between the two. It was a tough choice!

I liked the PC 1HP VS Ridgid 1/2HP

PC 4" Quill travel VS Ridgid 3 3/4"

PC Had X-Y Laser VS Ridgid None

Both have a 3 Year Warranty, Ridgid adds the limited Lifetime warranty.

As I stated, I have several Ridgid machines and they are all well made. I will try to add pics later tonight.

I did not know it had a full 4" quill travel! I swear I saw specs a while back... oh well, I may regret that some day - I have some 4x4 or even 6x6 work in my future, I know it.

I really liked the Steel City 20525 drill press but it was out of my price range @ $599. It was well made with full 6" quill travel + 5 year warranty. I also looked at the Grizzly G7944 3 1/4" quill stroke.
