My turning group is meeting tomorrow and I need some help. I have some 3/8 HSS square tool stock and looking to make beading tools. I found this article: http://www.davidreedsmith.com/SemiShearArticle.htm and am looking for more suggestions.

Thanks,

Pete

I used an old HF spindle gouge to make a beading tool. Seems like making one of square stock would take a lot of grinding. Maybe making a bedan or a standard beading tool (like a big fat parting tool) would be useful with a lot less work and probably more useful as they can be used for more things.

My 2 cents worth.

David has beading tools on his website as well that were posted after he did the articles for Woodturning Design.

Pete,
Do a search here for beaded hollowforms. Harvey Meyer shows how he made one. I've made a couple from 1/4 x 1/4 x 2-1/2 HSS tooling bits and they work pretty good.
