Entertainment Center Complete

I started this a long time ago, and have finally finished the last piece. It's made from quatersawn red oak and finished with waterbase poly. I learned a lot along the way:

Inset doors are not as hard as I thought.
Wood stain can go bad.
Being in a hurry will take longer because you have to schedule a trip to the ER for stitches.

Next lesson - using superglue on small lacerations and learning to give yourself sutures on the larger ones saves the time, trouble, and aggravation of going to the ER...

One question, where did the fire place go?

Well..... The fire place is still there behind the cabinet (the gas was capped and disconnected). Both the mantle and hearth are gone. I built the cabinet modularly so that the future owner can take out the bottom two center sections and have a fireplace if they want. The entire center section sits away from the wall so that the heat from the electronics can travel up. There are slots cut in the bottom of the electronics cabinets that let air in from a closet in the basement.

Im suprised you found it easy for inset doors with those old school hinges that have very little adjustability.

Took me a min to figure that out. The six year old is pretty stealthy. I didn't notice he made it into the picture until it was too late.

This was also the project that allowed me to justify a spray finishing system. I can't believe how much faster it was than brushing. It had to be 10x faster.

Saw this before, but forgot to comment. Really nice change to that room, and I very much like the BACK panels for some reason. Are the panels solid oak, or are they ply? The quartersawn red oak looks pretty much like rift-sawn without the flecks and rays of white oak, but it's a look that I very much like.

I've bookmarked your design for my wife to look at before I "finalize" my own built in ;)

Are the panels solid oak, or are they ply?

The backs of the cabinets are quarter inch plywood. I then applied 5/16" thick rails and stiles to the inside of the cabinet after they were installed. The bookshelves looked very large and plain without the dividers. That detail really made the cabinet for me.

Thanks again for the compliments. I'm in the process of adding lights underneath every shelf to more evenly illuminate the entire cabinet.

Those doors are HUGE. I made some cabinet doors almost that large and have to get out of the way for them to open.

I'm not that into Oak, but this seems very authentic in the Craftsmen Style. Congratulations for pulling it off. I have a new respect for QSWO.
