I've been very lucky over the last year to have people give me some very spacial pieces of wood to turn. Here are a couple of bowls I've turned to show my appreciation.
Jack
Here is picture of the wood donated. The biggest piece is right at 55" through the center.

This wood all seems to have curl in it like this. This bowl is 14" by 7"

Here is the oak burl a man gave me. He had to use a large power company digger truck to bring it to me.

This is one of 30 bowls I've turned from this large burl. It is 12" by 4.5" I still have enough of this wood to turn another 10 bowls.

Great looking bowls. I would be thrilled to be the recipient of either of them.

You do need to be careful giving people bowls like that... You may end up buried in beautiful logs and burls!:D

Those certainly are fitting gifts, Jack! Beautiful bowls, and it would be hard to pick. The oak burl is special, but that maple is really, really nice, too!

Excellent reason to gloat! Nice wood, and some absolutely gorgeous bowls. Well done!!
I'd fight a bear for a burl like that!! (but I'd probably cheat... with a big gun.) :D

Thanks for the kind words everyone. The wood is very speacial and I hope not to let any of it go to waste. My students have turned a lot of the maple so far. Here is a picture for Brian. I will use all the small stuff for calls and such.
Thanks again,
Jack
