I finally got my order from Woodcraft. I ordered a 10 pack of African Blackwood pen blanks for my petite ornament obsession and well...... all other woods pale next to African Blackwwod for turning really really thin! I really like this wood and am toying with the idea of one of those bags of 70 steeks!

Tonight I increased the tiny ornament collection by 3 and they are getting smaller and smaller. (pictures at a later date).

Anyone toying with finial or pendant creation needs to try this wood. There is a reason why it is used for the most delicate of stem turnings.

on a side note.. the Claro Walnut bowl blank I bought, was a rip off. I sliced it into thirds for ornament bulbs and the grain was no more impressive than the walnut I have laying around on the shelves. :( Oh well.

That's a usual problem with claro walnut. You never know what you've got until you cut into each piece.
