I decided to turn a couple of utility bowls for the kitchen. The walnut is just shy of 12" across, and the mulberry piece is around 10". The walnut was a gift from our own John Keeton... Thank you, sir!

Both are finished with BLO and beeswax.

Nice work on both counts David, but I am partial to the walnut one.
It would hold enough chips to get one through a movie...

Both are nice, my favorite is the mulberry.

You did that walnut justice, David!! Really nice, and you worked the knot like a pro.

I like the mulberry, too. I have a couple pieces in the barn - need to do something with them. As I recall, the are crotch pieces.

Nice set of bowls David. I got to break into my stash of mulberry and see if I can do as well.

Those are some great looking bowls. Really like the form of both.

Both are nice bowls but something about the color and grain of the mulberry appeals to me even though I am usually partial to anything walnut!

Nice work on both bowls! I like the Walnut bowl also but not because of the wood. I really like the form, thickness of the bowl and the slight slant to the rim. All those elements combined give you a real winner!

Thanks for sharing!

Very nice looking bowls. Would be a hard choice to have to pick one over the other.

nice utility (I prefer "eatin" bowls) bowls. A question: are you eating from these? BLO to my knowledge has metallic dryers..I, personally wouldn't use BLO. Do you know something I don't?

They both are well done. It will be interesting to see the color change in the mulberry over time, if you can remember to show a pic in a few months.

Thanks for the info. I don't know anything about the safety of BLO. I suppose I was working from the idea that everything is safe once the finish has cured. I'll do a little research and let you know if I find anything. I would have preferred to use walnut oil, but I don't have any on hand.

Nice work, David... Well done, all the way around.
Michelle, BLO is manufactured in the USA, and since 80-something, all wood finishes in the USA have to be food safe when cured. Now. The question is: How long does it take BLO to cure?
I hope I'm thinking straight on this... somebody correct me, if I'm wrong.
