I'm toying with the idea of inlaying some copper (roughly 1/32" thick or thereabouts) into an ebony background on the lid of a box for a freind. My original thought for finish on the box was Seal-Coat followed by Target WB lacquer. If I add copper am I going to have problems with a water based finish causing the copper to turn green? Should I ditch the WB and use regular lacquer?

I have done metal inlay a few times. I used shellac to seal it since it bonds well to metal and then catalyzed lacquer for the top coat. Came out great and is still as shiny as the day I finished it. Not sure about the waterborne finishes but I wouldn't risk it personally.
