I can't seem to make the attachment work today. So, here is a pic of my first bowl since the 70s. I made this one about three years ago. I had to make a tool to turn it because I didn't have anything strong enough to turn this old dry hard burl. It was very much like turning concrete.

Here is the tool I made to turn this bowl.

Sounds like it was a bear to turn but the end result is very cool. That is some beautiful wood.

Nice bowl and tool I like what you did. I really like seeing your lathe too!:)

I've been looking everywhere for more info on that old lathe. The only label on it says "Chambers Aircraft". No date, no manufacturer.

I searched the old woodworking machines web site for similar looking lathes but never saw one very close.

FYI; it is mostly cast iron except the head and tail piece, they are 1/2 inch plate steel and 3 inch tubular steel welded and machined.

The capacity is 19" diameter by 68" length. The total length of the bed is 8 feet.
The tailpiece takes a #4 Morse taper.
