A few of these folks took their small cars on Route 66 just for fun. I think some of them could hit a top speed of about 45 MPH.

We have done route 66 twice in our Mustang convertible. Took two weeks from Chicago to LA. Only did the old roads as much as possible. We were within spitting distance of the interstates for hundreds of miles. Ate at the old diners, visited museums, slept in the wigwams.

The second time we did it was two or three years after the first, and we could tell there was a noticeable lessening of the old places to look at.

Highly recommend this trip for anyone with a nostalgic bent.

In 1966 or so my Model A club took 66 (as much as exists) from NJ to CA getting their wheels in both oceans of course. No micro cars, but almost as uncomfortable.

Cool story. Thanks.

That's really cool. One of my coworkers in Virginia had a Nash Metropolitan. Those are some bizarre, tiny cars!

A few years ago my family and I stopped into Pop's on Route 66 in Oklahoma. That place was mobbed! It's pretty much a large gas station that sells hundreds of different kinds of soda pop and small diner. Apparently, the demand is there in Oklahoma.

Anyone ever take a cross country trip on U.S. Highway 50?
That trip seems to be getting more popular all the time.

Hows this for little wheels.
