Flag box

As I was putting a star pattern away the idea of carving a flag, box, and plaque entered my head. The full size flag box and plaque are made of butternut wood then bleach. The flag is also butternut but it was dyed blue. After the bleaching and dye I chip carved thru it leaving the natural wood color except for the flag stars which I bleached to get white. Neat. What tools did you use to do the script? Also, how did you do the little serifs at the tops of the f's?

All the carving was done with a chip carving knife, even the little serifs at the tops of the f's.
