Santa Claus brought me an American Flyer 312 Loco set when I was 9 years old, that was 1949. I still have it and it still runs. I have collected pieces over the years, old and new. The photo is a 4-8-8-4 Big Boy that Lionel advertised in 2008 and finally made available in late 2009. A beautiful piece with great sounds and protypical hesitation start programmed. The background is a southwestern whatever, the word escapes me at the moment, tunnel scratch built from styrofoam and carved light weight hydrocal. Painted in the southwest colors that I truly love. many of the forms that I turn are shapes of the Anasazi.
The great thing about turning is you eventually finish the piece. A model railroad layout is never finished.
Thanks for asking, yes Phoebe Snow is nice. I will dig thru my CDs and listen to, help me out here, I can almost hear it

N scale all the way, baby. My only regret is its very tough to put sound in n scale locos.

Me too, been modeling in HO gauge for 20 or so years and collecting and running Lionel since my Dad bought me my first Fallen Flags set in 1953. HO is more affordable to model but I have seen some O-scale rolling stock and layouts that were unbelievable.

David, nice Big Boy.That must have been like buying a Sawstop.I really miss the NS 611 and 1218 runs they used to have

I had a double decker layout in HO at our previous house in the 3rd bedroom. Move houses, gain 1200 sq ft, gain a detached shop, but lose the train room. Still not sure how that happened.:confused::confused:
Train layouts are much like shops, never finished. I don't think I could ever have created the detail for the landscaping that are soooo beautiful. I'm just not artistic enough. But I had a lot of fun with the mechanical building of the layout.
I'm sure the electronics have come a long way in the past 7 or 8 years since I was actively watching the innovations. I was setting my layout up for the electronics that allow multiple train on one section of track. Never got to the hardware for it though. And I too got my love of model trains from my Dad, just like my love for working with my hands. I woke up one Christmas morning with a 4 X 8 sheet of plywood hinged off the sidewall in the garage with a small oval, and 2 switches making a larger oval. There's no way you could have convinced me that it didn't come from Santa Clause!!! Makes me love my Dad even more everytime I think about him staying up putting that together! Jim.

Before kids, I used to model in HO scale. It's all in boxes now, to be resurrected when they are older. The diorama sits on a shelf, unfinished.

im'n a H O-er AND PROUD OF IT. my son and i had a rather large set up, i haven't put it up since his passing in 2001. im'n keeping the trains for the grandchildern. keep on chuggin. ed

Sn3 14X22' Knowing we'd be soon putting house up for sale the railroad had to go. 25 years work in progress, that first sawzall cut was a tough one!

For those of us who mourned the end of the NS steam program, and particularly those in the South the NS is working with the Tennessee Valley Railroad museum to return steam to NS rails. Unfortunately the power will not be 611 or 1218. They are going to use smaller locomotives I think a 4-6-2 or 2-8-0. All I can suggest right now is keep your ears open.
