An attempt at mixed media.

Actually, it is just a base to show off an urchin shell I found while snorkeling in Hawaii.

It originally consisted of only the top layer, with the guts of a Christmas ornament in the base and an LED inside the urchin. The problem was, it was powered by three very small button batteries. Power ran down very quickly.

I added the bottom base layer to hold a pack of AA rechargeables. Power forever now.

The woodwork is not much, just some Koa (to go with the Hawaiian urchin). I did not have much room with 3/4 inch stock to do any carving and still have room for the batteries. Koa does not usually need much help looking beautiful. It looks cool when the light is on anyway.

Plucking that off the reef and getting it back home in one piece is an accomplishment. You did a nice job with the base and creative use of lighting. Did you wire in a resistor for the LED's?
