Okay, the last hundred or so posts have mostly been for help or tech stuff and it's BORING!

Here are some cool eggshells that might make some nice Christmas ornaments or gifts or SOMETHING - let's get going Creekers, keep Dee entertained and inspired, please!

And no, I did not make these. But they do give me some ideas!

 dee

ps- I do not know why the pix don't show automatically... this is how they loaded, sorry!

Those are way cool. I 'specially like the wise men coming around the egg to Bethlehem. The flowers are amazing.

Hi Dee

I've played with eggs a little bit. The ones you posted are very nice. It looks like both vector and raster work. Did you do these? I haven't had much luck with rastering them. Any info on settings and technique? Came up with a way to hold them with pieces of candle but centering has been an issue. Also, no consistency in the shells themselves.

Thanks Dee for posting these, you're right technical stuff is boring :D

the Pegasus and the Hummingbird are adorable - are you sure they are lasered ?

Hi Dee,

I have never managed to cut through without making a total mess of the whole thing but chickens eggs raster and vector quite well.
This was done using a rotary axis.

Paul.

Andrea,

The ones Dee posted were rotary engraved...

Dan I think those were done with hand held high speed hand carver as used by a guy on Youtube - search for egg carver - loads of them on there showing how it's done. Do like Paul's attempt though.

Yeah, that's what I meant, like one of the roto-zips or Dremels... I guess rotary was a little too vague.

Those look great...I love them..But I wunder if those were cast from some sort of a mold then engraved. It might be me but they appear to be thicker than the average chicken egg. Thanks for posting them..they would look great with a small light inside.

I don't know, someone sent them to me and it was stated they were done with "a high intensity precision laser beam". It was a fundraiser for cancer cures. That's all I know. But really, I just wanted to see if I could get people posting some stuff they've made instead of just tech discussions all the time.

Dan

I think these were done with a hand held engraver more like a dental drill or one of those 100,000 rpm air powered engravers.

As far as thickness of the shells, I believe many of the ones I've seen are not chicken eggs but duck, goose, ostridge(sp) or other larger birds. I assume you would need a rotary and a lot of patience!!

IF you can't laser it or hand carve it theres always EGG BOT !

Very interesting to see, impressive, twice impressive have in showroom for potential customers, but absolutely useless :) in terms of business and profits IMHO.

$200 and I know it'll run as a rotary on my Trotec. :D

Eggbot is very cool. That would be worth getting to simply get into the nuts and bolts of CNC without a big investment. Once you can master that, anything else is just a matter of scaling. I have an old HP plotter just hanging around for such a purpose. Tear it apart and see what other applications are possible. I'm still working to get a laser that will cut metal, probably one of the new fiber lasers, and would love to experiment with new designs and techniques with my rings. Kind of like the designs on the eggs that combine raster sculpting and vector cutting.

Arrived this afternoon. Got it assembled but haven't installed any software yet.

Should be fun. (Or possibly .)

Sooooo cool.....

Lee, let us know the scoop when you get it up and running!

Are there any "food safe" pens that may fit?

They gave you schematics/wire diagrams to be able to do that?

ULS gives out info on a "Need to know basis only", and I don't know how many times I've heard them say "Only Engineering has that and is not available" it's like sucking a grapefruit through a straw getting technical documentation out of them.</rant>
