Im going to be making a vanity with an X in one of the open cabinet areas, for storage of towels. I was wondering how its done?
I was thinking of measuring the diagonal, ripping a 5/8 hardwood to that width after glue up or use 3/4 ply and band the ends. Then 45 each end and fit it, put a dado in the center of it and fit two more pieces in the other direction? Is there and easier way? The box will be about 12x16 an its paint grade.

Thanks

That will work and shouldn't be to difficult. You could also cut notches so the pieces slide into each other but I think the dados would be much faster and easier to control.

Even an 1/8th inch deep would be sufficient although I would likely use a dado on only one side and butt joint the other with screws in the bottom of the dado.
