I'm making an entertainment {TV} bench made from Birch Plywood, any thoughts on using Homestead's TranFast Dye. I plan on using the Antique Cherry Red.

Any thoughts of using this dye on this type of wood?

Dye is easier to control than stain. Mix your dye a bit lighter than the final color and sneak up on it. Dye darkens with added coats, stain do not. Once you know the exact shade you want you can mix the dye a bit darker, if it's better to get the color in one coat.

Spraying is the easiest way to get uniform coloring from dye. I like alcohol dyes; water is a little esier when you are first starting out.

Mix your dye very carefully so you can get the same shade again if needed.

Practice practice practice on scrap first.

Thanks Scott,

I'll try the alcohol dyes first. Can you suggest a finish, I was thinking about shellac.

I would probabily use a varnish for an entertainment center.
