I put the finishing touches on this rocking chair that will be a gift to my daughter-in-law.

I don't get much shop time, so this took me about five months from purchase of wood to finish. Probably about 60 hours.

It is based on the Hal Taylor design. The wood is cherry.

Gorgeous and you work quickly if you have 60 hours in it!

60 hours! You must have 10 helpers armed to the teeth with nail guns and shapers...

No nailguns involved on this project. Much of the work is bandsaw, bent lamination and a lot of shaping with an angle grinder. Then a lot more sanding.

What a great job. I am gearing up for this project. I hope mine turns out half as nice as yours.

Beautiful work, Fred. Those chairs are a lot of work, and the joints are difficult. Congratulations!

Thanks for all the kind words. The wife has a list of "honey do's" that has grown quite a bit while I made two of these chairs. Got to get back to the kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors which will include about 50 frame and panel doors.

Very nice work, Fred. I hope you'll continue to post your projects. Maybe you can provide some progress pics as well. :)

Very nice and I like the Hal Taylor design best. You did well.

I have to ask, what did you use on the angle grinder to do that? I have one myself... but I made the mistake of cutting into a piece of wood once(using as a backing for the metal)... You will never see me run as fast as I did that day... nothing worse than flying abrasive.. at about waist level...
