I guess they've succeeded in making something akin to a light saber.

It will instantly start your flesh on fire.

I'm thinking it would be handy for through dovetails.

So when I hook this to my dust collector, should it be grounded?:D

Does it actually cut? From their web page it appears to be a laser pointer..

Yes, and I'd also get the option halon fire suppression kit.

I suppose it would suck if it could instantly start your flesh on fire, but couldn't cut anything. Kind of the opposite of SawStop technology.

I think it is 1W. It will cut, but I suppose there would be focal length issues.

Isn't 1W about the power of the lasers the engravers use?

A laser pointer is usually 5mW. This company (and others) have previously made much higher power (200mW, 500mW, 1W...) lasers available, albeit illegally in the US. With even about 50mW, you can pop black baloons and light matches on fire.
