Hey Gang,
I struck the Mother-load Today. A local Sawyer had a large White Oak burl that was at least 5' around and nearly 4-5 ft. long. He had called me earlier and said if I needed some to come take a look. Well, when I saw what he had I got the whole first lot he had cut. Eight pieces in all, with several 6" thick and many with live edge. Some measure 11"x20"x6". other measure 10"x17" x4". A few others are 8"x17"x3-1/2". All in all a great haul and one of the best for me in a long time. I can hardly wait the start turning on it. The pieces are all coated and they are all rock solid.

Thanks guys. I am still felling euphoric when I look at the pieces. It will take me awhile to decide how to proceed, but I am sure it will be fun deciding.

That is really nice looking stuff! Hopefully, I can find out at the local turners meeting where the good stuff is around here. Perhaps, "when the student is ready the burl will appear".
Post your pics for sure!!!

No words left on this side! Keep a small piece, nicely sanded and varnished/oiled as a reminder on your desk. These opps dont come by that often!
