Welcome to the Creek David.
Great work on the segmented piece.
Something to consider. There is a turners forum and a piece like this may be more appropriate over there. That being said nice work again..

Sorry, can you do the transfer or shall I simply delete it and re-post in the turners forum?

A very smart piece David well done. And you probably scored a point with Mr. Hart with the spray lacquer finish. Welcome to the dark side.

That is a nice piece. I like the choice of woods, ones I would not have thought of. They really look good together. How long have you been segmenting. I'm with some of the others here, I waiting to grow up before I try it.

Would that be growing up or segmented turning? :D:D:D

Nice piece and welcome to the forum. Just starting on segmenting and haven't tried an open piece yet. Only comment would be that the finial looks a bit large/heavy. What are the piece's dimensions?

Beautiful piece! I have always wondered with open segmented, how do you control/tame the glue squeeze out?

Dimensions are 2" high x 4" dia and yes, I agree with you then finial is rather large, 1"-1/2 high. I am right now in the process of making another one to replace it. Will take another photo of the piece and Post it for you to critique.

David - Welcome to the Creek!

Really nice work on the open segmented form! I agree that the finial is a little overpowering ... looking forward to seeing what's next!

Beautiful piece! I have always wondered with open segmented, how do you control/tame the glue squeeze out?

Brian, it doesn't take very much glue, two very thin lines, one on each side of the segment, so there is practically no squeeze out. If a squeeze out does occur, pipe cleaners with a small amount of water will take care of it.
