Horizontal variations.

Thanks to Frank for posting some Photograv examples I etched this Owl onto 6mm acrylic.

There are slight horizontal variations in the etch perhaps caused by laser power variation perhaps caused by speed variations.

Anybody have any ideas on this please ?

I suggest you try slowing down the engraving speed or engrave picture at 300-400 DPI. If the engraving DPI is higher than the picture's DPI you may experience pixel overlap. This can also be caused by adjusting the picture's size after importation or improper X axis belt tension (if applicable).

I'm curious, since you have a converted wood router, what you are engraving with. Mach 3? If that's the case, I can't imagine your carriage moves near as fast as a "true" engraver.

Engraved using the Mach3 Impact/laser Engraving plugin.
My G1 feedrate / speed for this was 4000 mm/min (which is very slow by your standards) and the owl scan took just over an hour to complete.
