I've put up a very simple and stripped-down proof of concept website that's a collection of old tool ads that's kinda-sorta searchable:

http://www.speakeasy.org/~jcmcm/tagtest.php

Clicking each keyword/tag brings up a page of related ads. I'm posting this in Neaderland because, even though there are plenty of power tool ads, the focus is (will be) on hand tools and all the ads are decades old, if not a century or more.

I've only sifted through a handful of issues of two magazines for ads so far, but I have a large variety queued up. Btw, almost all of this info comes from Google Books (http://books.google.com/bkshp?hl=en&tab=wp), and as always, the rights to the material is held by... well, I still need to figure that out. Almost all the companies and magazines involved are long gone, with such notable exceptions as Stanley and Starrett.

Assuming I don't have to drop the project for other priorities, I'll let y'all know when I'm able to pretty it up and add more flexibility to the searching. But for now, it has just enough content where I felt it would be worth while to share.

That's a fantastic resource. It'd be nice for people to be able to add things to it, like a hand tool advertisement wiki.
