not the world's best pictures as i have not yet gotten around to setting up a decent photo tent this bowl went to my Uncle Bob and Aunt Nancy for their 50th wedding anniversary

i cut the corners off the block of Claro before i started turning the bowl and have enough blanks for 12-15 pens
today i turned the first of those ......................

too bad this wood doesn't grow locally :(

how can something so nice to turn be so hard to lose the scratches on?
ah well it was definitely worth the effort

critiques welcomed

Don, thanks for the tribute!!:D And, you are right, I love the Claro walnut. It is such beautiful wood anyway, and this piece is outstanding. You lucked into some very nice burl in the side of the bowl and picked that up in the pen, as well.

Both are very well done! Hope that isn't the last piece of Claro for you. A person should always have a good stock on the shelf!;) Have fun with the rest of the pens.

The pen looks lighter than the bowl. I have never turned a pen, nor used CA as a finish, but I wonder what some BLO, followed by some shellac and then the CA might do on the pen?

Very nice looking bowl and pen. That's one of the prettier pieces of walnut burl I've seen in a while.

If you have more of it, hide it! Keeton has probably already plugged your address into Mapquest!
