I found this lil' ol' hand grinder at the flea market the other day and the wheel seems mighty dirty and dished. I got it thinking there ought to be a source for smaller grinding wheels, but no dice so far. Does anyone know where to get a 1/2 to 1 inch wide grinding wheel, in a 5-inch diameter? This one won't accomodate a 6-inch diameter wheel. The bore is 3/8 inch but I'm sure I could find a mandrel to come up to 1/2 or 5/8 inch. http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss199/Jonathryn/haul%20of%20the%20day/DSC02727.jpg

Thanks for the suggestion. It was the first place I looked, but I didn't see those. Maybe I was searching under "Norton."

1" arbor hole but 5" wheel diameters. Its a start.

Back up one page from there and narrow the search to 5" wheels. I think they list 5 different ones.

There still looks like there's a pretty good amt of stone left there. Why dont you just get a diamond stone dresser and take the dish out of it?

Will second Jeremy's reply - I've got a grinder exactly like that and I use it about every other day. It is really, really great - one of my most valuable tools. Get a good diamond wheel dresser and dress the wheel - you have to continuously do this over time anyway, as particles build up on the wheel. Good luck, EH

You can always reduce an oversized arbor hole with epoxy. (Make sure to use the boatbuilding stuff not the 1:1 ratio Araldit/similar, it's too rigid and tends to split). Then dress the stone to make sure it's well centred.
