I was doing an 1/8" roundoff, when the bearing fell off. Really messed up my piece.

1. can I get a replacement screw?
2. How do I prevent recurrance? Lock tite?

Of course, knowing the size, you may be able to pick up a screw at your local hardware store.

And remember, Google is your friend. ;)

Freud stands behind their tools. Contact Freud and tell them of your misadventure. I am sure they will provide you with the needed screw.

+1 on Google; it's where i looked 2 minutes and found this:

Thanks, guys. I called, and need the part number from home (duh).

Memory shot, and my google-skills are weak. I blame the Lymes.

I do not use loc-tite although I see no problem with it. I do check to see that things are tight before use as assumptions can be troublesome at 20,000 RPM. I have a collection of bearings, top collars, etc. Some of them I got in kits that were on sale and they come with a selection of the screws. These greatly expand the usefulness of my bits and require that I change bearings now and again. I had one come loose once long ago; never again.

I'll have the bit in the collet and use an allen wrench to snug the bearings and/or collars (router unplugged of course). I clean my bits regularly and remove the bearings as I don't want them in the sauce. Afterward I put things back together as described. ;-)

I use something similar to Loc tite. Its green and I get it from the hobby store. Its actually made to hold R/C helicopter bolts tight.
